{geni:about_me} I lived in Czechoslovakia (Stribro, Plzen, Prague) till March 1939; then as a refugee from Nazism in UK (London, Worthing, Sheffield, Notingham) till May 1945

(volunteered for the Czech army in 1941, deferred because of reserved ooccupation). Returned to Prague after the war with wife Elizabeth and lived there till August 1968 when after the Soviet invasion left again with family and from September 1968 have lived in UK (Newcastle upon Tyne) where I worked as professor of hydraulic engineering till my retirement in 1983. I also worked till 1998 in Delft, Netherlands as faculty member at the International Institute for Hydraulic Engineering. During my professional career I published over 20 books and 100 papers, lectured at Universities in Canada, India, Brasil, Indonisia, Europe and Australia and received honours from UK, USA, the Czech Academy of Sciences and International organisations; in 2011 honorary citizenship of town of birth (Stribro, Czech Republic)
