Notes for Leopold (Löbl) (Aryeh-Leib) Tauber
{geni:about_me} Leopold Tauber was a twin to his brother, Moises. He had the Hebrew name of "Aryeh Leib", and was born in Holesov, Moravia on 28 April 1803. As a younger son, he had very few rights in his native Moravia and, assoon as he reached his majority, he crossed the border into Hungary. He lived in Trencin City where he likely lived in the household of his Knopfelmacher relatives who had already settled there. He became a Hebrew elementary schoolteacher and, shortly after his marriage in Trencin, 1833, he and his wife moved to Baan, Trencin County (now Banovce nad Bebranou, Slovakia), where he taught school. They remained in Baan until about 1843 when they returned toTrencin City.

Leopold remained in Trencin City until his death (25 April 1887, age 84 years). He taught Hebrew elementary school there for several decades and was a well-respected member of the Jewish community. He, his wife, and several of their children were all buried in the Trencin Jewish Cemetery (in the center, not far up the hill from the main gate). Their graves were visited in 1926 by American descendants, but had all been destroyed when other family membersvisited in March 2000.
