He wasa member of Temple B'Nai Israel of Spartanburg where he was a member of B'Nai Brith and a former officer of the Temple Board. He was a Sargent in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II.

In 1946 he married Selma Anderson of Newark, NJ.; he had two sons, Dr. Marc Tanenbaum and his wife Shelly of Atlanta, GA, and Jak Tanenbaum and his wife Lynden of Portland, OR; a daughter, Lee Tanenbaum of Roswell, GA; three grandsons, Daniel Magid of Durham, NC and Oren Magid of Washington, DC, and Roman Jakien of Portland, OR; five granddaughters, Jamie Wiegmann of Roswell, GA and Sara Erickson of Acworth, GA, Alisa Stoughton of Charlottesville, VA, Jessica Tanenbaum of New York City, NY, and Kasey Jakien of Portland, OR; seven greatgrandchildren, Eliana, Makana, Jayden, and Leland Erickson of Acworth, Georgia; Sydney Magid of Durham, NC, and Aidan and Lorilei Stoughton of Charlottesville, VA. He was predeceased by a brother, Joel Tanenbaum; and a sister, Thelma Yoffe.

Ralph Tanenbaum was the best husband, a wonderful father and a good friend to many. His big smile and gentle nature will live forever in the memory of everyone who had the good fortune to share life with him.

Ralph Tanenbaum, 87, of Alpharetta, GA, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, September 5, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Born August 3, 1921, in Augusta, GA, he was the son of the late Harry and Pearl Levy Tanenbaum. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, he attended Wofford College and was the former owner of Tanny’s in Spartanburg. He is a member of Temple B’Nai Israel of Spartanburg where he was a former officer of the Temple Boardand a member of B’Nai Brith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel conducted by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
