{geni:about_me} Ulrich Knoepflmacher fled to Bolivia with his parents in 1939. On 23 August 1951, on the freighter "Santa Leonor" from Antofagasta, Chili, Ulrich Knoepflmacher arrived in the U.S. at the First U.S. Pacific Port inSan Francisco. He joined relatives at 537 Hillen Drive in Oakland, California. He came to attend college in the United States, which he subsequently did. He later earned a Ph.D. at Princeton in 1961. He taught English at Berkeleyfor 18 years (1961-1979), then returned to a faculty post at Princeton, where he was the William and Annie S. Paton Foundation Professor of Ancient and Modern Languages. He retired in 2007 and is now the Paton Foundation ProfessorEmeritus.

He and his family continue to reside in Princeton, NJ. His interests include Victorian literature and culture, 19th century poetry, the English novel, and English and American children's books. He is the author of seven books on Victorian subjects, and the editor or co-editor of ten other books. Among the books he has authored are: "Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights': A Study" (1989) (1996) and "Ventures into Childhood: Victorians, Fairy Tales, and Feminity" (1998) (1999). Among the books he has edited are: "The Endurance of 'Frankenstein'" (1979) and "Forbidden Journeys: Fairy Tales and Fantasies by Victorian Women Writers" (1992) (1993). He has recently finished an illustrated children's book, and is completing a memoir called "Oruro: Growing Up Jewish in the Andes".
