{geni:about_me} In 1981 I interviewed Lillian Caplan. She told me that Jacob real name was Berecovitz. She said,"My father's parents bought him out of the Navy or Army to sent him to N.Y. Everyone in front of him were yelling "Cap-Cap", so he said "Cap". That's how he got through. Some family members said that his name was changed to Caplan because he was Jewish and when asked his name he said "Cap" there at Ellis Island. Lillian said he died at age 71and is buried in L.A at "Home of the Peace", Mt. Zion Cemetery.
