Notes for Rivkah Oberman
{geni:about_me} Rivka was the second of four daughters, born in 1856. Her parents were
Wolf and Eva Oberman. Although she grew up in poverty, her parents saw
to it that she was well educated for that time. She and her sisters
learned to read and write.

Even though she was intelligent, and educated, she had difficulty
finding a husband. this was due to her father, Wolf, being too poor to
provide her with a respectable dowry. She was therefore forced to marry
a widower much older than her.

They lived in Warsaw, Poland. They had two children, Hannah and
Y'shia. Soon after the birth of the children Mordachai Lieb, her
husband, died leaving her a young, penniless widow.

She tried to support herslf, and her children, although at times she
would stay with her various sisters. She would earn a meager sum, mending
and sewing for rich families. One such well to do Warsaw family was
actualy related to us. Sara Prines (Preves?), is a distant cousin of
ours. She often had to be gone for weeks at a time, travling to different
villages and towns. The children would be left with different relatives,
untill they were "grown up enough" to be on their own .

One of Rivka's sisters, Krusa had married a wealthy man and lived in
Lublin. She is said to have had a heart of gold. Whenever Rivka turned
to her for help she was good to her.

Her children immigrated to America in 1901 before reaching adulthood,
leaving their mother behind.

Rifva died in Poland in 1921 or 1922.
