{geni:about_me} Rabbi Jonas Moses Bondi, 1768-1806, born in Prague and settled in Mayence (Mainz). He was a distinguished pupil of the famous Rabbi Ezekiel Landau, the "Noda BiYehuda", and later settled in Dresden.
In 1789 he received permission from the French authorities to move to Mayence in order to marry Bella, daughter of Rabbi Herz Scheuer who later became the Av Beit Din there (from 1800-1810).
Rabbi Scheuer was the son of the former Chief Rabbi of that city, Rabbi David Tebele Scheuer (rabbi from 1768-1782).
It is interesting to note that a granddaughter of Rabbi Jonas Bondi, Roeschen, married Rabbi Dr. Marcus Lehmann, who became one of the leaders of the Mayence community from 1854 until 1890.
Thereafter Lehmann's brother-in-law, a grandson of his namesake, Rabbi Jonas Bondi, was his successor as Av Beit Din of Mayence until his death in 1896. He was succeeded by his nephew, Rabbi Jonas Bondi, who died in 1929.
