BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 5 — Felix Haurowitz, a distinguished professor emeritus of chemistry at Indiana University who made several key discoveries relating to hemoglobin in blood, died Wednesday. He was 91 years old.

In 1930 Mr. Haurowitz first proposed the template theory in immunology, describing how the human body's immune system forms antibodies to fight invading organisms.

Later, Mr. Haurowitz discovered that a human fetus contains a different kind of hemoglobin from an adult.
