{geni:about_me} Note: Paul von Dömény, M.D. as a major in the Austo-Hungarian army in Bulgaria, was in charge of sanitation for Romania and Bulgaria. Later he was a Major General and all the army doctors reported to him. Accordingto Emerich Paul's birth certificate, he was a military surgeon of the k.k. (Kaiser and Kings) Landwehr i.r. 2 (infantry regiment) in Linz. Paul von Dömény, M.D was awarded the Red Cross Second Class a Austro-Hungary, Honor decoration of the Red Cross award, 2nd class issued until WW1.
He converted to Catholism sometime before 1910; but on Nov.15, 1935 Germany defines a “Jew” anyone with 3 Jewish grandparents, or someone with two Jewish grandparents who identified themselves as a Jew. On March 3, 1936 Jewish doctors were barred from practicing medicine in German institutions. On March 30, 1938 Paul submitted his completed form of all the property he owned as required by the German government. On August 20, 1942 Paul was deported to Theresienstadt. A family friend, Eric Kroner, took care of him during WWII and according to Eric, Paul died during an air raid in Vienna between 1942 and 1943. May 19, 2000, Paul Anthony received a letter from Aunt Maria (Dömeny) Franco regarding an inquiry she made in 1946 about the fate of her mother and father from American joint distribution committee, intergovernmental committee on refugees, Hq allied commission, APO 294, dated January 16, 1946 stating "Dr. Paul Dömeny, last address in Vienna: 2 Novaragasse 32/I/4, deported to Theresienstadt on Aug. 20, 1942. He does not appear to be on the lists of persons who are returned from concentration camps".
