{geni:about_me} Leopold was born in Trebic, Moravia, 6 November 1788, the son of Markus-Jonas Zerkowitz and his first wife, Ester. His birth record lists him as "Juda", and his full name was "Jehuda Aryeh Leib", in honor of hisdeceased paternal grandfather. When just a young boy, he moved with his father and stepmother to Obuda, Hungary (around 1794) and spent his youth there.

As a young man, Leopold Zerkowitz left Obuda and moved to Nagy Kanizsa, Zala megye, Hungary in 1817. He was a shopkeeper / tradesman ("boltos") by occupation. He is seen in the 1848 Jewish census:

Leopold Zerkowitz died in Nagy Kanizsa on 31 October 1860, age 72 years.
