http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=5ec5...&pid=-1783746885IRMA WEIGL, James' wife, was born in Brno (Brünn), Czechoslovakia, in 1898.
Her father ARTHUR, was from somewhere in Germany, and her mother EMMA, was from Düsseldorf, Germany.
She had an older sister, TRUDE, and a younger brother, EGON.
Arthur was an inventor. His most famous invention was the first electric eye. He designed a machine that could sort coffee beans by color. Eventually he sold the machine or the patent to the German museum. He encouraged Irma to continue her education after the Matura. Although she wanted to study medicine, he wanted her to study engineering. She studied at the University of Munich, becoming the first woman chemical engineer (Diplom Inginieur Chemie) in Germany. It was very unusual for a woman to attain that level of education at that time in history. James' family tended to resent her for her education.
During the early 30's, as the Nazis were coming to power in Germany, IRMA's parents, ARTHUR and EMMA, as well as her brother EGON and sister TRUDE moved to Romania. Sadly enough, the rest of her family: most of her cousins, aunts, and uncles, were all killed by the Nazis. An entire family was just wiped out.
JAMES died in 1961 at the age of 66. After his death, Irma began to teach languages at the Jamestown Community College. Years before, Fred Bolman, Ruth's ex-husband had been the President of the college. She had a massive heart attack in 1963, while visiting Ralph in the hospital after his major cancer surgery. She continued to work and travel and eventually died in 1966.
