Notes for Markus (Mair) Knöpfelmacher
{geni:about_me} Mair (Markus) Knopflmacher was a Rabbi. He lived first in Wsetin, Moravia (c.1782-c.1790), then became chief rabbi in Zlin, Moravia (c.1790-c.1815). He later lived in Prilepy (Prilipp), Moravia, just outside hisnative town of Holesov. On 27 October 1815, he purchased synagogue seat #106 in Holesov, formerly belonging to his recently deceased brother-in-law, Aaron Tauber (1747-1815). In this document, he is listed as "Markus Knopfelmacher" but the Hebrew writing next to his name refers to him as "Meir Zelin" [or Mair from Zlin]. On 11 September 1821, he sold the synagogue seat to Elias Gall (or Stall) and may have lived elsewhere for a period of time.
Markus Knopflmacher's last years were spent in Holesov. He died there on 14 September 1848, age 87. His death record refers to him as "familiant #226" and indicates that he was residing in household #47 at the time of his demise.
