Parents Samuel John Smith & Sarah Curtis. Settled in Norfolk Co. See Annals of Forty # 8 p. 50, "Pioneer Sketches of Long Point Settlement", p.243; Grant Smith & Jannis Rogers, Long Point Settlers Journal, Vol 4 No. 4, Oct 1997. Reputedly part of 1787 party, but not on return. Pioneer Sketches states 1778- both wrong.

knew & recommended. Granted 200 acres , Lot 24 Con III On Lot 24 Con V Charlotteville Twp., Norfolk Co. ca 1800 where better wood for barrell making. Will dated 20 Feb 1813 mentions wife Elizabeth; children Andrew, Garrett, Samuel, Rachel Boughner, Abraham; gson Joseph, son of John deceased
Rebecca SMITH BIRTH: 27 Feb 1744 & John Mills U.E.L, [U.E.L.=United Empire Loyalist] of Sussex Co., NJ to Grimsby, Lincoln Co., Ontario John Mills was imprisioned in 1788 and in 1794 applied for a land grant. As a Loyalist, he came to The Forty in 1787 with the other families from that community." Janet Powell Grimsby Historical Society, 1950-1959 Volume 8, p. 46 The Annals cite Silas' death as being on 14 Nov 1844. Reputedly part of 1787 party, but not on return. [WillardTottle claims 1778- email 2 Jun 2001. Othneil, Silas, John & 11 other families incl. John Kelly b. 1748 made up party.] 600 acres Saltfleet Lot 2, Con II to V Became local Methodist preacher. "Silas Smith, UEL and his descendants" R. Janet Powell states, "lived for a time in Germantown, Pennsylvania and then in the Log Gaol district in Sussex County, New Jersey" Also implies a relationship between two families of John & Joseph Smith, "Family historystates that she (Esther, wife of Silas) was a cousin of Silas but this has not been proved". Preponderance of evidence is that they are cousins.

Daniel Judd's gedcom shows that Joseph Smith is the son of John Smith and Rachel Dunham. Joseph lived in Sussex County, New Jersey.
