Notes for József Lővinger
{geni:occupation} Notary for town and Jewish Community,Teacher at Balassagyarmat Jewish school
{geni:about_me} József Lövinger served the Balassagyarmat community for decades as a teacher at the local Jewish elementary school, and also as the rapporteur of the local Jewish community, and even as a sachter (the man, who helps at the circumcisions). He got married three times and had 7 grandchildren.

He was also described as the "Notary" for the Jewish community in Balassagyarmat.

The following is information supplied by Béla Majdán Jr. who runs the History Museum in Balassagyarmat:

In a book entitled '''''Senkiföldjén''''' (On No-Man's Land, which discusses the history of Balassagyarmat's Jews and their situation until the Holocaust), there is an article, which says as follows: In 1895, a local politician named Pál Szontagh made a speech in parliament praising the Jews. When he arrived home in Balassagyarmat, the local Jewish community were there to welcome him, and thanked him for his kind words. The leader of the welcoming group was none other than Joseph Lövinger, who (as mentioned earlier) was also the notary of the Jewish community. The article contains his welcoming speech, and here is its rough translation:

"My dear Sir! Those words, that come from one's heart, will reach others' hearts as the proverb says. This is proven by our visit, because we want to express our gratitude toward your highness, who so kindly and fatherly praised our community in front of the whole country, We are all the children of the same father, we were created by the same G-d."
