{geni:about_me} Gustav Mahler (07 July 1860 – 18 May 1911).
internationally celebrated Bohemian-born Austrian composer and conductor, Gustav Mahler, was best known during his lifetime as one of the leading orchestral and operatic conductors of his day. He has, since the mid-20th century, been acclaimed as among the most important of the late-Romantic/early-Modernist composers. Numerous aficionados of today esteem Mahler equally as eminent as Beethoven and Wagner. Although the fidgety, nervous-natured virtuoso's artistic genius was slow to be accepted by the musical establishment of Vienna, his music has caught fire, rendering a Mahler concert ticket 'golden.'
Mahler is primarily recognized for his symphonies numbered 1-9, as well as for his powerful symphonic poem, 'Das Lied von der Erde.' His approach to genre often blurred the lines between German orchestral 'Lied' (songs), symphonyand the symphonic poem; yet, Mahler's star continues to rise in the velvet evening sky. His Symphony No. 10 was left unfinished, when the artist/conductor/composer died prematurely at age 50, of impaired cardio function.
