Profile

I was born in the UK and travelled extensively in India from 1977 to 1982 where I learned Hindi and studied Indian Culture and society. From 1983 to 1991 I studied Hindi language and literature and South Asian religious traditionsat The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. I then worked at the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine from 1991 to 1996 where I did research on the history of Hindi literature and Hindi medical literature. I also worked for the Antioch Buddhist studies program in Bodhgaya India on a number of occasions during the 1990s and become interested in research on the relationship between Buddhism and religion in South Asia and contemporary politics and media. From 1997 to 2008 I worked at La Trobe University in Melbourne Australia where I developed and taught Hindi language and Buddhist Studies programs.
