Notes for David Knöpfelmacher
{geni:occupation} Merchant, Cantor (see profile comments)
{geni:about_me} Born in Holesov, but left as a young man. He went first to Lacnov, Moravia, but later moved over the border into Hungary. He was living in Pucho, Trencin Co., Hungary [now Puchov, Slovakia] as early as 1804 and remained there until about 1811. He and his family then moved to Cachtice, Nitra Co., Hungary where they remained until the early 1820s. They then settled in Luky, Trencin Co., where both David and his second wife Cecilia died.The 1848 census gives David Knopfelmacher's occupation as "kereskedo" (merchant / trader). However, it is also believed that he was a Jewish cantor and holy man. His name appears as a witness on numerous Jewish birth records inthe community of Luky, and he was clearly an individual who was held in high esteem.

David Knopfelmacher's age widely varies. When he died in May 1867, his death record states that he was 92. However, in the 1848 census, he gave his own age as 65. It is believed he was born about 1778, and therefore, 89 at death.

Census records:

wife, Czilli;
son, Markus, age 22;
