Notes for Herbert Schwarz
{geni:about_me} Herbert Ludwig Schwarz was born in Vienna to Ludwig Schwarz and Irene Neurath. Ludwig was a musician and composer and Irene was an opera singer. Herbert was born on August 16, 1916 when his father was 50 years old. This was Ludwig's second marriage. They lived in the Leopold district of Vienna. Herbert was educated by private tutors and was in medical school in Vienna in 1936. Because of the restrictions being placed on Jews Herbert and his father left Vienna and went to the united States. Sponsored by Ludwig's brother Arthur Schwarz who owned Princeton Mills in New Jersey. Herbert eventually went to dental school at the University of Buffalo. Then joined the US Army and was in the medical corps. He was in the Normandy invasion, was stationed in France and stayed in Europe to search for the rest of his family at the end of the war. He found no one left alive.

In Buffalo he married Lauretta Tugg. They had three children, Irene, Patricia, and Roberta. He was married a second time to Alice Hilton and had two more children, Barbara and Kathryn. He became a citizen of the US when he entered the US Army and at that time he changed his name to Hayward and was known his adult life as Herbert Hayward.

He practiced orthodontia and craniofacial rehabilitation in New York City and died in 1988.
