Notes for Albert Schwager
{geni:about_me} Albert Schwager was born in 20-Aug-1885 in Koetzting, Bavaria to Isidor Schwager and Anna (nee Steindler).
He was educated in a public school and received religious instruction education in Cham.
He apprenticed in the leather business in Quedkinburg on the Hartz and returned after three years to join the family business.
Albert served as a soldier in the German army in WW1. After the war, when his parents Isidor and Karla moved to Munich, he took over the family business in Cham with his brothers Fritz and Sigmund.
Albert married Reisl Schwarz from Roding Oberpfalz (born 1890). They had three children. Born and died in Germany. Hilderl who was killed at the age of 11 by a Nazi truck and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Regensburg. Friedrich (Fred) who emigrated to NY.
Through good luck or good sight, Albert and Reisl applied for emigration before Kristal Nacht in Nov 1938. This gave them a critical advantage over those who waited until later when there was a flood of applications to emigrate.
In May 1939, Albert and Reisl left on the S.S. St. Louse for Cuba. However, the ship, with 907 refugees, was not permitted to land and returned to Antwerp. Albert and Reisl then went to London to wait for an emigration permit to US. On 28-Mar-1940 they arrived to NY.
In US they lived in the Bronx in NY city . Albert died in NY in 20-Jul-1963. Reisl died in 270Mar-1979 in Kingston, Pennsylvania where she had been living with her son Fred and his wife Margot.

The son Fred Schwager married Margot Neumann on 21-Jan-1945. They lived most of their life in Kingston, Pennsylvania where Fred ran a successful shoe business.
