Notes for Gabriel Schmeichler
{geni:about_me} Grossmama (Sophie Steckerl) had a hard youth. Her parents had married very young, her mother at 15 , her father (Bocherl) eighteen and had lived with her mother's parents. The former young bookseller Bocherl, who wasinterested in philosophy and history, had to take over the corn dealing of this father-in-law and drove to Poland with carts loaded high. The horses could take many days for the journey so the book seller sat on the seat next tothe driver and read world history with great interest. His favourite
subject was Napoleon because that was learning of the nineteenth century. Business was poor and his delicate wife bore him three daughters and 4 sons in quick succession.
