Notes for Ida (Chaika) (Twin with Raiza) Lerner
{geni:about_me} I don't remember much about my grandmother Chaika London. I was told that she had never cut her hair. She had long gray hair. I was eleven when she died. I remember that my parents and I took her and my zaida Hyman London on drives on Sundays. My grandfather died when I was nine. I remember Chaika in the nursing home and believe she fell, broke her hip, and developed dementia. I remember visiting the nursing home (Milford Manor) a lotand pushing her up and down the hallway in her wheelchair. I remember that she had a companion who was very good to her in the nursing home. Her name was Sally Cherry. A cousin told me that both of my grandparents only spokeYiddish---I didn't remember that. I do have a recollection of a least one Passover with my grandparents--each grandchild was given a silver dollar for the afikomen.
