Notes for Harry Heinz Benjamin Sloan
{geni:occupation} Optician
{geni:about_me} Harry Sloan was born in Dusseldorf, Germany as Heinz Salomon. He joined his father in the retail optical business after an education in optics at Jena University. With the rise of antisemitism, he left Germany in1938 to emigrate to the United States with the hope of getting established and then bringing his aging father to join him. With his new American name, he worked briefly in NYC, before he answered an advertisement for an opticianin High Point, NC. He organized and developed Southern Optical Company, a wholesale manufacturer of eyeglass lenses in 1939. Under his leadership and work ethic, the company became a success.

His greatest lifetime regret was not being able to rescue his father from Nazi Germany.
