Notes for Laurie Smith
{geni:about_me} I have worked in London schools full-time for 22 years as an English teacher, Head of English and Deputy Head. In 1990 I was seconded to the London East Anglia Assessment Group (LEAG) to develop the Graded Assessment Profile in English as part of the suite of graded assessment programmes developed jointly by King’s, LEAG and the ILEA. In 1993 I joined King’s where I administer GAPE. I was subsequently appointed coordinator of the Area Professional Tutoring programme and Deputy Director of the Professional Studies programme, both for the PGCE course.

From 1993 to 2002 I was Chief Marker for the KS3 English test for the London East Anglia Region and, following reorganisation, one of the national Chief Markers in 2003.

Following the division of marking between Reading/Shakespeare and Writing in 2004, I have been a Senior Marker for the Reading and Shakespeare papers until the discontinuation of external marking in October 2008.

Until recently I taught part-time at a boys' comprehensive school in Central London. I now lead a group developing materials for cognitive acceleration in English and demonstrate their use with KS3 students and their teachers.
